Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square

London's full of famous streets and squares, but Trafalgar Square is perhaps the best-known, and the grandest, of them all. At the hub of the City of Westminster, London's parliamentary district, Trafalgar Square is the traditional staging point for the biggest London festivals and political demonstrations, from anti-war protests to the annual Easter re-enactment of the Passion of Jesus.

Enjoy a wander through Trafalgar Square, taking in the towering Nelson Column, which was built to honor the admiral who defeated Napoleon in the Battle of Trafalgar after which the square is named. Dabble a hand in the square's fountains, or climb up to sit astride one of the four magnificent bronze lions which guard the central column, for a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity. Trafalgar Square also opens out onto the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery, which house two of London's best-regarded art collections.
